The presentation will describe and distinguish the three key concepts of cryptocurrencies, distributed ledger technology, and tokens. We will cover a brief history of the origins of Bitcoin (the first cryptocurrency); some of the unique benefits and dangers of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies; the rise of crypto-assets such as tokens for initial coin offerings and security tokens; the potential uses of distributed ledger technology and so-called “smart contracts,” particularly in the field of estate planning; and attempts thus far at regulation of cryptocurrencies in the U.S. market.
